ABOUT CARF
Christian Aid and resources Foundation. Combatting slavery from Africa to Europe.
What we are and who we are.
Christian Aid and Resources Foundation – CARF was established in 1998 in response to the tragic tales/stories of the victims of sex slavery in The Netherlands and the wider European Union. At that time Women and girls were being raped, on an average, by 25 men on daily basis at the infamous Red Light District of Amsterdam and other major cities in the Netherlands. Yet as evil and obnoxious as this Modern Day Slavery for sexual exploitation was,[ so euphemistically called Human Trafficking] the worst was not the raping itself but the untold stories of what happened behind the scenes; when these victims go home and haven’t made enough money for the day or the week.
The violence, torture, beatings and other forms of inhuman treatment meted out to them by their pimps, madams and slave masters can only be imagined from a horror film.
Their Despairing cry.
Having met hundreds of these women and girls, listened to their harrowing and traumatizing stories and cried together with them, Rev. Dr. Tom Marfo decided to do something about it.
His approach was to challenge the authorities, civil societies, the Media, the Police and the judiciary to change the narrative and come to terms that what was happening in our legally sanctioned Red Light Districts was not ‘Human Trafficking and free choice prostitution’ but Slavery in its worse form! That most of the ladies were not Prostitutes but victims of rape by powerful ‘clients’ who were exploiting their powerlessness and vulnerability. Society was collectively guilty of numbed conscience!
Human Trafficking Awareness
Along with the work we do to educate young people about what their human rights are, we also work to educate young people on major pressing human rights issues that affect them and their community, empowering them to do something about it. This includes the scourge of human trafficking that affects the lives of millions of youth every day.
